Blacksburg Transit Fall 2026 Service Changes

Blacksburg Transit changed several routes for Fall 2026 based on passenger feedback, effective with Intermediate Service on August 17, 2026 (BMR changes effective August 24, 2026). Changes included revised CAS frequencies, extended PHB, HWA, HWB and CRC hours, redirected BMR and HXP routes, a new late-night and weekend HXS route, and splitting the Two Town Trolley (TTT) into TTH (year-round, serving LewisGale Hospital Montgomery) and TTS (weekends, serving Spradlin Farms). The notice does not mention fare changes.

The project

The details.

Separately, Blacksburg Transit temporarily reduced weekday frequency on at least eight routes starting January 18, 2026 because two recalls limited the battery capacity of its electric buses (WSLS, December 10, 2025). The NRV MPO 2050 plan lists Transit Strategic Plan route improvements in three stages: short-term 2025-2028 ($3,181,581; Campus Circulator, Meadowbrook Zone On-Demand, Progress Street, Carpenter Boulevard, Hokie Express realignment, Main Street North, Toms Creek frequency), mid-term 2029-2031 ($1,340,759; including Clay Street, a 460 Express route and Main Street South) and long-term 2032-2034 ($2,152,960; including Glade Road and zone services). At an October 7, 2025 work session on the Yellow Sulphur Apartments development, Blacksburg Transit said service near that site is limited, that it prefers not to route buses through the site, and that a mid-term plan (2029-2032) proposes extending the Main Street South route to the hospital, pending resources and pedestrian safety improvements.
