The project

The details.

A May 22, 2025 Town memo attributed the cost increase to inflation since the project was originally funded about six years earlier, and said delays came from COVID-19 and a lengthy easement acquisition process. Town staff described the project as ready for construction, with bids reviewed by Town and VDOT staff. Ordinance 2089, accepting and appropriating the $2,397,387 in VDOT Revenue Sharing funds to the Harding Avenue Sidewalk and Stormwater Project, was on the June 24, 2025 Council agenda for public hearing. The NRV MPO 2050 Constrained Long-Range Transportation Plan lists sidewalk, drainage and road improvements on Harding Avenue from Apartment Heights to the town limit at an estimated $8,600,000. The Blacksburg Transit alert affected stops 1516 (Harding/Patrick Henry westbound) and 1517 (Harding Silverleaf westbound), with a temporary stop near 1517.
