Montgomery Matters Comprehensive Plan (including the Prices Fork Village Plan and Merrimac Growth Area)
Montgomery County adopted a new comprehensive plan, Montgomery Matters, replacing the Montgomery County 2025 plan first adopted in 2004. The Board of Supervisors adopted the plan on March 23, 2026 and adopted Part 5 (the Future Land Use Map plus village and growth area plans for Prices Fork, Elliston-Lafayette, Riner and Shawsville villages and the Bethel and Merrimac growth areas) on June 22, 2026, both unanimously and effective July 1, 2026. The plan guides rezoning and special use permit decisions in the unincorporated county around Blacksburg for roughly the next 20 years.
The project
The details.
The plan has five parts: The Plan and Process; Outdoors and Culture Matters; Community Development Matters; Health and Services Matters; and Land Use Vision and Villages. County staff reported 18 months of engagement including three community surveys, four open houses and ten Planning Commission work sessions; a Prices Fork Village meeting was held May 7, 2026 at Prices Fork Elementary School. At the June 22, 2026 hearing, staff said the Planning Commission added a new action item to explore future park opportunities in the Prices Fork community, and several speakers asked for county support of Harvey Lee (H.L.) Price Park in Prices Fork, which is maintained by volunteers. Ordinance numbers: ORD-FY-26-27 (plan) and ORD-FY-26-31 (Part 5).
