Progress Street Bike Improvements, Phase 2

Proposed second phase of bicycle improvements on Progress Street NW between Broce Drive and Watson Avenue, replacing shared-lane markings (sharrows) with a bicycle lane and removing on-street parking from the odd-address side. Phase 1, from North Main Street to Patrick Henry Drive, was completed with a 2022 repaving project. The Phase 2 public comment period closed June 26, 2026; the Town lists construction as upcoming with no date.

The details.

Phase 1 added a bike lane on the even-address side and sharrows on the odd-address side from North Main Street to Broce Drive, and bike lanes on both sides from Broce Drive to Patrick Henry Drive, with parking removed from the even-address side. The project was identified in the 2015 Bicycle Master Plan and is supported by the 2021 Comprehensive Plan, according to the Town's project page.
