History
Beside an 1830s brick house.
Townhomes on Lucas Drive northeast of downtown, right beside the Keister House, built in the 1830s.
Springdale Addition is a small group of townhomes on Lucas Drive, northeast of the historic center of Blacksburg.
Its neighbor on Giles Road is a house with roots in 1800. By local tradition the Keister land was granted in 1800 and a log house built on it then. The two-story brick house followed in the 1830s, joined to the log house by a corridor. Tax records show John Keister, born in Blacksburg in 1787, owned the property in 1840, and the family kept it until a 1935 foreclosure; the log section was torn down after the sale. The brick house, a rare variation on the region's hall-parlor plan, was listed on the National Register in 1989.
About four-tenths of a mile southwest stands the Odd Fellows Hall of 1905, a two-story frame lodge that served through the early and mid-20th century as the social center of Blacksburg's African American community. It was listed on the National Register in 2005.
