Dining Services Center
Virginia Tech plans a new Dining Services Center of about 60,000 square feet, a single-story high-bay food production and storage facility on university land on Research Center Drive near the Virginia Tech Montgomery Executive Airport. It would move food production now done at the Southgate Center, built in 1987, which serves 14 dining halls. The Board of Visitors approved $4.4 million for design on Nov. 18, 2025; construction dates are not set.

The details.
The project is in the university's 2026-2032 Six-Year Capital Outlay Plan. The board document says enrollment of undergraduates, the largest group served by campus dining, has grown more than 60 percent since the Southgate Center was built, that its only significant renovation was a 2002 addition, and that current production capacity is lower than recommended for the student body. The planning phase is funded from dining program revenues; the resolution says a request for full funding may follow once design is underway. The Division of Facilities lists the project as in design, with construction start and completion to be determined.
