Blacksburg Transit Multi-Modal Transit Facility (Transit Center)
Transit center beside the Perry Street parking garage on the Virginia Tech campus with 17 sheltered bus bays, a passenger waiting area and the Hokie Bike Hub, funded by federal and state grants, the Town of Blacksburg and Virginia Tech. The building was dedicated at a ribbon cutting on March 20, 2025. A $52,783.40 program management contract amendment for close-out was on the June 24, 2025 Council agenda, and Council approved a further $120,640 amendment on February 10, 2026 because services were still needed for project close-out.
The project
The details.
WSLS reported a $26 million cost and said the bus bays had been in use since the previous August. At a June 17, 2025 work session, the Transit Director said minor items remained before a final certificate of occupancy and requested a six-month extension of the program management contract with McDonough Bolyard Peck, Inc. The February 10, 2026 memo said the project was in Phase II (construction phase program management and special inspections) and that continued services were necessary for close-out. The NRV MPO 2050 plan lists the Virginia Tech Campus Multi-Modal Transportation Facility and campus mobility improvements together at $39,054,533; that figure covers more than the building, so it differs from the WSLS cost.
