Virginia Tech and Virginia Tech Foundation property exchange (Turner Street and Old Glade Road)
On Nov. 18, 2025 the Virginia Tech Board of Visitors approved a resolution under which the university would acquire about 7.4 acres of Virginia Tech Foundation property on Turner Street in downtown Blacksburg, including the North End Center, Gilbert Place, Collegiate Square and the North End Center parking garage, and convey about 20 acres adjacent to Old Glade Road to the Foundation. The university said the exchange strengthens the opportunity to redevelop the property around Old Glade Road and University City Boulevard. Board approval is the first step; the transactions also require review and approval by state officials.
The project
The details.
The university said the resolution aligns with designations in its campus master plan, consolidates key properties and reduces long-term costs. The Town Manager briefed Town Council on the exchange at its Nov. 18, 2025 work session, and the minutes record that Council discussed it. A board document presented April 14, 2026 states that Gilbert Place was transferred from the Foundation to the university in early 2026. The sources reviewed do not show completed transfers of the other Turner Street properties or the Old Glade Road land, and no specific development plan for the Old Glade Road site had been published in those sources.
