History

A crossroads community.

Newer homes near Happy Hollow Road, where the Mt. Tabor community had its school and its gathering place.

Mt. Tabor Meadows is a neighborhood of newer homes on Asher Lane, Masada Way and Petra Pass, close to where Happy Hollow Road meets Mount Tabor Road northeast of Blacksburg.

That corner was the center of the Mt. Tabor community. In 1928 a Richmond newspaper listed Mt. Tabor among the communities around Blacksburg that had their own schools, and its school had stood on the corner since 1874, growing from one log room to three. In 1936 the county school board bought the community building next door for the school's lunch room. It became the community's meeting place, and in 1954 the Community Club bought it from the school board.

The school closed in 1965 and was later turned into apartments. The community building came down, its land passed to the local Ruritan Club in 1977, and in 1983 that land was sold for a private home.
