History

The Villas at Fiddlers Green is a newer neighborhood of homes within walking distance of both Virginia Tech and downtown Blacksburg, next to its namesake neighbor, Fiddler's Green.
Its closest landmark is the Amiss-Palmer House, also known as the Palmer House: a two-story brick house built in the 1850s, with a Greek Revival portico and frieze from the pattern books of the day. Its kitchen, a two-story log house and a smokehouse survive on the property, and the house is listed on the National Register of Historic Places.
The Fiddlers Green name goes back to a farm just south of the original town that John Black, of Blacksburg's founding family, gave to his son Alexander in the 1820s. Its land became today's Miller-Southside, where the 1919 plan renamed Water Street as Fiddlers Green Road. It is Draper Road now.
